The project I am currently working on deals with expressions. The basic premise is to photograph people given 24 separate prompts. These prompts include simple facial expressions and actions, as well as more complex emotions. The prompts I have chosen include:

1. Straight face (Neutral expression)
2. Smile (Closed mouth)
3. Smile (Open/toothy)
4. Frown
5. Anger
6. Fear
7. Confusion
8. Concentration
9. Flirtation
10. Surprise
11. Sadness
12. Contempt
13. Desire
14. Disgust
15. Excitement
16. Frustration
17. Laughter
18. Growl/Snarl
19. Smirk
20. Wink
21. Curiosity
22. Admonishing
23. Annoyance
24. Yell/Shout/Scream

In part, I want to use this project to look at similarities and differences in the way people respond to these prompts. I also want to look at the similarities in the expressions themselves. For example, I would be interested in seeing how similar or different one person’s smirk and smile are, or if their snarl is the same way they express anger.

Initially I was going to shoot the project on film (which is why there are 24 prompts), but I felt it may be in my best interest to do it digitally to not lose any of the shots due to poor settings, or my film being damaged (which happened during my first test).
